Place re‐making and sense of place after quarrying and social‐ecological restoration

Rapid urbanization increases pressure on extracting construction materials through quarrying, which is disrupting and re-making places worldwide. In this study, we examine how people's place making sense of are reconfigured quarrying. Taking a case study approach, investigate perceptions after quarrying social-ecological restoration in limestone region the Czech Republic. Our survey 400 visitors shows that affects feelings, activities, quarry features. These can be predicted by socio-demographic characteristics, experiences preferences, context particular quarry. We conclude should key themes sustainable development debate, as they help to better understand human variables constrain or enable socially just development. approach provides conceptual basis for revealing processes people iteratively recreate their connections shaped long-lasting disruptions, such mining erased prior socio-cultural material landscapes.
